Bills Of Interest In The NE Legislature...

    Here is a quick summary of a few bills that caught my eye that have been introduced in the Nebraska Legislature.   LB 158 (McCollister) Deny compensation under the Nebraska Workers' Compensation Act in situations of false representation.  No compensation shall be allowed if, at the time of or in the course of entering into employment or at the time of receiving notice of the removal of conditions from a conditional offer of employment, the employee knowingly and willfully made a false representation as to his or her physical or medical condition. Referred to Business and Labor Committee.   LB 179 (Brash) Require apprentice electricians to complete continuing education. Excellence In Construction Celebration

  Local magician and comedian Gayle Becwar will entertain attendees at this year’s ABC Cornhusker Chapter’s Excellence in Construction banquet Feb. 19 at Lincoln’s Cornhusker Hotel. His style of interactive and fast-paced magic and comedy will make the evening all that more enjoyable.  Becwar has performed thousands of times at colleges, conventions, casinos and comedy clubs throughout the United States and abroad. According to the Associated Press, he is “more than just a magician, Gayle Becwar is a complete entertainer.”   Additional excitement will stem from the presentation of the EIC awards themselves. The awards celebrate ABC members’ achievements in construction, including the quality of work and size of projects. EIC allows members to showcase their finest work completed within the past year. Alan Kriegler - 2014 Cornhusker Chapter Instructor of the Year

 

A new Excellence In Construction Award for the Cornhusker ABC Chapter is the Craft Instructor of the Year Award.  It will be presented to an instructor who possesses outstanding creativity, a positive attitude, and the ability to transfer knowledge through good communications skills and innovative teaching to promote lifelong learning to our future workforce. The recipient of this award best embodies the merit shop ideals through superior effort and talent.  We would like to congratulation Lincoln Electrical Instructor, Alan Kriegler, Sentry Electric who will receive this award at our Excellence In Construction Awards Ceremony on February 19 at The Cornhusker Hotel, Lincoln, NE.  Congratulations Alan!
 

I - 9 UPDATE by Bill Harding

    On November 24, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit issued a decision under the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) which may have a long term impact on the construction industry.  In this case, an immigrant used the identities and documents of U.S. citizens when he completed the various I-9 forms to work at two different employers.  The immigrant had entered into an agreement with another individual who would keep the immigrant's earnings but provide him with housing, calling cards and living expenses.  The immigrant later married a U.S. citizen and sought to adjust his status to that of a lawful permanent resident.  The matter was litigated before the Board of Immigration Appeals which determined that the immigrant should be deported and that he could not adjust his status because of a portion of the INA prohibiting a "false claim."  On appeal, the Court agreed with the Board and reje ...   Most accidents occur as a result of an unsafe condition or unsafe action coming together with a Obey safety rules and you will decrease the number of near misses around you person. The end result is the person gets injured. Often unsafe acts or unsafe conditions have several misfires and the result is a near miss accident or incident.
