Reputation & Crisis Management- Understanding What is at Risk When Things Go Wrong

Thank you to Holmes Murphy for inviting ABC Members to close out our safety series by attending this workshop on November 5 which will discuss reputation risk and how to manage a crisis to minimize the impact when the adverse event does occur. 
 
Attendees will leave the workshop with a strategy for developing a policy to manage the first hour, and the first 24 hours of a crisis event.
 
This workshop is for industry owners, operations, managers, CFO’s, CEO’s risk managers and controller.



DOL Adminstrator Claims Most Independent Contractors Are Employees by Jerry L. Pigsley

In July, the U.S. Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division Administrator, David Weil, issued an “Administrator’s Interpretation” claiming that “[m]isclassification of employees [under the Fair Labor Standards Act] as independent contractors is found in an increasing number of workplaces in the United States” and that “some employees may be intentionally misclassified as a means to cut costs and avoid compliance with labor laws.”  WH Division Administrator’s Interpretation No. 2015‑1 (July 15, 2015).      MOST INDEPENDENT CONTRACTORS ARE EMPLOYEES   The DOL Administrator, in his Interpretation, concluded “most workers are employees under the FLSA’s broad definition.”  According to the Administrator, DOL will apply the following “economic realities” factors to determine whether a worker is an employee or an independent contractor.  No single factor, including control, is to be over‑e ... ABC Endorces Don Bacon

The Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Cornhusker Chapter today endorsed Don Bacon’s (R-Papillion) candidacy in the election for Nebraska’s 2nd District in the U.S. House of Representatives.   “Nebraska’s building community and families don’t need another career politician representing them in Congress, they need a principled and proven leader like Don Bacon,” said ABC Cornhusker President Anne Klute. “Don’s leadership and dedication to serving his country through his nearly 30 career in the U.S. Air Force and his common-sense approach to governing will be invaluable assets to Nebraskans and we are proud to support him.   “Contractors are being smothered by far too many policies flooding out of Washington, from an outdated and convoluted tax code to an overreaching regulatory system,” said Klute. “Local job creators are being held back by Washington’s failed policies. Construction Math Classes For Your Employers

Math is not a subject your team will rush to sign up for!  Check with your superintendents today to see who NEEDS the class.  Classes start next week!!!   Introduction to Construction Math reviews basic math skills, related to construction trades and demonstrates to whom they apply within the trades.  The curriculum covers multiple systems of measurement, decimals, fractions and basic geometry.  This is an eight-week class that meets on Thursday evenings from 6-8 p.m. beginning October 15.   We are also offering the Applied Construction Math classes.  These classes feature a story that students can relate to math skills they never thought they could grant.  Its innovative style motivates students to follow the lessons by associating math with events they may encounter in their real lives.  More than 10 chapters teach basic math skills including division, decimals an percentages, reading measurements, calculating area and volume, pressure, slopes and square inch ... October Networking Luncheons

Connect with other ABC members by attending the Omaha Networking Luncheon at Anthony’s Restaurant on October 21 and the Lincoln Networking Luncheon at Beacon Hills Restaurant on October 27, 2015.   Our safety series continues with our speaker for the October luncheons.  Craig Martin, construction attorney with Lamson Dugan and Murray LLP, will discuss the steps your company needs to take well in advance of an OSHA inspection, such as adopting a safety plan and training your employees on that plan.  Craig will also discuss best practices to survive the OSHA inspection, including what to do in the opening and closing conferences, how to handle the walk-around, and how to best respond if citations are issued by OSHA.    Jerry Pigsley will present the Lunch & Learn Topic “OSHA’s New Guidance on Transgender Workers’ Restroom Rights”, at both the Omaha and Lincoln luncheons.   To register for the Omaha Luncheon click here.   To register fo ...
