Electricity on Construction Site by Beau Briggs

  It doesn't take a lot of electricity to kill you. The amount of current needed to light an ordinary 60-watt light bulb is five times what can kill a person. Thus, all electrical equipment on construction sites is potentially deadly. Electrical extension cords are numerous on construction sites and become damaged because of the rough conditions in which they are used. FLSA vs. IRCA UPDATE by Jerry Pigsley

  On February 2, the United States District Court in Arizona issued a decision involving the conflict between the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and the Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA).  An undocumented worker brought an action under the FLSA claiming that the construction contractor in question did not pay overtime.  The federal court granted summary judgment to the employee and added liquidated damages against the contractor.  The contractor argued that under a 2002 U.S. Supreme Court decision, liquidated damages should not apply.  Other courts have concluded that undocumented workers may bring actions under the FLSA.  However, several courts have recognized the tension between the FLSA and the IRCA which prohibits the employment of undocumented immigrants.  Ultimately, the Arizona federal court concluded that liquidated damages should be available to unautho ... ABC Apprentice Graduation

 
Join us as we celebrate our Lincoln and Omaha Apprenticeship graduates.  Lincoln area students who complete the Lincoln Education curriculum will graduate April 14.  The graduation ceremony will be at The Knolls Restaurant with social time beginning at 6:00 and dinner scheduled for 6:45 p.m.
 
Omaha area students who complete the Omaha Education curriculum will graduate on April 21.  The graduation ceremony will be at Anthony’s Restaurant with social hour beginning at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:30.

The ABC Golf outing is right around the corner.  The event will be at Tiburon Golf Course, Omaha, NE with an 11:00 am start on Wednesday, June 10th.

Pre-Apprenticeship Pilot Program

  Associated Builders & Contractors is offering a Pre-Apprenticeship Pilot Program which begins April 27th, 2015. The NCCER Core curriculum will be utilized for the program.  Classes will be Monday and Tuesday evenings, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. for an eight week period.  ABC is offering a one-time introductory tuition cost of $295.  This price is 50% off the standard fee.  The ABC Pre-Apprenticeship lays out a basic career path in the construction industry.  These classes might be a good fit for your new hires or entry level employees.    In addition, we are offering this program in collaboration with ReConnect, Inc.  The primary goal of ReConnect, Inc. is to give their clients the tools needed to transform their lives and the communities in which they live.  They provide support and services to youths and adults involved in the criminal justice s ...
