E-VERIFY UPDATE: On August 15, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Citizen and Immigration Services (USCIS) expanded an E-Verify self-check service to Nebraska along with 15 other states.  The self-check service was launched in March in six states and allows individuals to check their own employment eligibility status before seeking employment.  The E-Verify self-check service is also now available in Spanish according to USCIS.  Since the construction industry is an “industry of interest” to the federal government and I-9 reviews are becoming more common in the industry, this service may assist construction industry employers in their compliance efforts with federal laws relating to employment eligibility.                 By Bill Harding, Chapter Attorney
