On October 25, the Department of Homeland Securities U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Division announced the redesign of Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) and Form N-560 certificates of citizenship. USCIS started issuing the new EADs on October 25 and will begin issuing the new certificates of citizenship on October 30. USCIS said that more than one million people will receive the new documents over the next year. The new documents have been redesigned to deter counterfeiting, obstruct tampering and facilitate quick and accurate authentication. The new EAD features optically variable ink, a holographic image, a laser-engraved tamper-resistant photograph and fingerprint, and a unique background design. The card number and case number will now be listed on the front of the card. The issuance of these new documents should make it easier for employers to verify the work eligibility status of job applicants. By Bill Harding, Chapter Attorney
