Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) today harshly criticized Democrat members of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) for using the agency for partisan political purposes after they announced their intention to bypass their own internal operating procedures in order to approve a rule that would radically shorten the time frame for union elections. The board will vote on the measure Nov. 30.
“In defiance of all institutional precedent and law, the two-member majority of the NLRB has hijacked the agency to attain their partisan-political purposes,” said ABC Vice President of Federal Affairs Geoff Burr. “In an attempt to discard the objection of the lone republican member of the board, they are racing to beat the clock and pass this rule before Craig Becker’s recess-appointed term expires at the end of this year.
“By disguising the ambush election rule as an ‘emergency,’ they essentially have squashed any dissenting argument on behalf of their minority colleague,” Burr said. “In the end, it will be the workers who suffer when they are denied the opportunity to make a fully informed decision about union representation.”
