Brain Allison, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the ABC-Cornhusker Chapter announced a new event called “Meet the General’s”. It is a business development and networking activity to match subcontractors with GC’s. The participating GC’s will be Sampson, Cheever, Hausemann, Lueder, Elkhorn West, Overland and Lund-Russ. Subcontractors who sign up for the event will be assigned to their first GC table and will move from GC to GC in small groups called “go arounds.” Subcontractors from the same company must travel together and will meet each GC represented.
At each table the sponsor will introduce themselves and start the introductions around the table. The general contractor will be the last to introduce themselves, when they will tell about their expected best practices for subs. The remaining time is then the Q & A portion. Everyone at the table will be given the opportunity to ask/answer a question of/from the GC. Every 15 minutes or so the subcontractor group will move to the next assigned GC’s table, the GC’s will remain at their table to welcome the next group.
Make sure your company representatives (maximum of two) feels comfortable introducing your company with short speech, you should practice your “elevator speech.”! Also bring extra company information packets to leave with each GC’s you will meet with. This may include a brochure or other material describing your company, descriptions and photos of projects, etc. Don’t forget to bring plenty of business cards!
